Hunnibell Racing > 3rd January 2015, Western Springs

After a few late nights repairing the car we were ready to go for the 50 lapper. With a different format to the previous race meetings it made for a great night. We had time trials in groups of 3. We had the current USAC midget Champion Rico Abreu in our group. Our group was the second to go out and we set quick time of 13.697. We were knocked off the top a few groups later by Bryan Clauson, Michael Pickens and Tracy Hines which meant we qualified 4th and were the second fastest kiwi!

We were locked into the A-dash which determined the starting positions for the main race. We tried out a few different things with the car during the race as it was not worth damaging anything before the feature. We finished the dash in 8th which was where we started in the 50 lap feature.

On the start we got stuck out wide and shuffled back few positions as we wanted to run the bottom but weren’t able to get down there, once we got to the bottom we slowly moved forward picking off cars. There was only one yellow on lap 17 which allowed a few people to make adjustments to their shocks. We kept persevering running the bottom and with about 5 to go we were running 7th and decided to change our driving line to the middle of the track which seemed to work as we managed to reel in 6th position but unfortunately we showed our nose a bit soon and he changed his line to ensure he kept his position. We came home to finish 7th which also meant we were the 3rd kiwi home!
